  • Mondul Estate is a large coffee plantation spanning 211 hectares, nestled on Mondul Mountain in Tanzania. Established in 1931, it became part of Burka Estates in 2007, one of the oldest and largest producers in the country.  Known for its commitment to quality and sustainability, Burka Estates produces hundreds of tons of high-quality Arabica coffee annually.  They employ a significant workforce, both permanent and seasonal, and are involved in extensive community development programs.

Mondul estate employs around 200 permanent workers, with this number soaring to over 5,000 during peak harvest season. All permanent staff receive housing and wages that exceed the government minimum by 20%. They also enjoy benefits like social security and access to a credit union.

Coffee production at Mondul Estate is meticulous. Only deep red cherries are hand-picked and carefully sorted before fermentation. The cherries undergo a five-day fermentation process in large tanks, after which they are traditionally dried. To ensure the highest quality, the estate has its own cupping lab where every day's harvest is evaluated.

Beyond coffee, Mondul Estate is dedicated to conservation. As one of the last and largest indigenous forests in Arusha, the estate's Burka Forest is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including rare bird species, monkeys, and even a baboon colony. The estate employs wildlife wardens to protect this precious ecosystem.
